Overview

‘Limoncello’ beach hut is located on the beach, near to toilets, tap, and a cafe. The Sandbank bar is a few yards and has a children’s play area, green space for games,  a dog washing area and a large screen which shows important sporting events. There is food available directly behind the hut at the cafe, or at Sandbanks. Also you can order food from a local company who provide cold platters for brunch, lunch, afternoon tea. Delivered directly to the hut. Pre booking is essential .

A longer walk in the other direction (turn left facing the sea) takes you past two other caravan parks to East Mersea where there is a Country Park 'Cudmore Grove' and ferry to Brightlingsea. (This direction requires a longer walk to get to  the country park) The coast path goes inland at one point to avoid a gully. If instead you turn to the right along the beach you will eventually come to the end of West Mersea beach made famous by Its seafood, (‘seafood at dawn’ and ‘the company shed’ booking essential). The oysters, are particularly famous. Also stroll past the houseboats and boats to eat or drink in the evening.

There are a number of public houses on the Island including 'The Fox' 0.8miles. ‘The Victory’ 1.5 miles'The Coast' 1.8 miles. All within a short drive or a pleasant walk.

The circumference of the Island is approximately 14 miles, and distance from Colchester centre is about 9 or 10 miles..

The causway can cut the island off from the main land twice a day so check the tide times.

Facilities information

The nearest tap is at the rear of the hut where a hedge divides the huts. Behind no 22

The nearest toilet is at the cafe, directly behind the hut, available for customers, or Sandbanks club house, further into the holiday park to the right behind the beach huts, which you are allowed to use whilst using the beach hut. Public toilets are nearby at the children’s playpark a short walk along the front,( to the right facing the sea),  where another cafe, 'The Two Sugars' is situated. There  is a disabled toilet in the car park on the front but only accessible with a radar key.

There is drinking water from a refillable container on the sink and a tap for washing up and cleaning which relies on a larger container of water. This water tends to sit longer so I suggest you don’t drink from the tap. (It works as a pump but may need a finger over the spout to prime it when the water is changed). This container can be refilled using the sack barrow in the storage locker.
